So, for $900 you were supposed to get a Kenwood TS-2000, a Yaesu FT-1000 Mark - V, a Yaesu FT-847, an Icom IC-756 Pro2, an Icom IC-706, three Heil microphones, and other miscellaneous items. That is an amazing deal. You stated you were supposed to meet with him personally. Why not exchange the check or cash for the merchandise when you meet him? I would personally stay away from a deal that sounds too good to be true (which this definitely does if I understand your complaint correctly). We should be cautious when dealing with someone with no license who is selling ham equipment. Hopefully no one else will get ripped off by Jon Paul Schell.

John - KK9A

Doesn't make any sense.

I have to agree with KK9A, none of this makes any sense.

First, you should all know by now that this is a ham radio web site, and dealing with non-hams significantly increases your chances of getting scammed. I have a link on EVERY page on the QTH.com Classifieds that says "Safe Trading Tips" and anyone looking at the page will see that dealing with hams is the first rule.

Second, like KK9A says, if you are meeting with him personally, why in the world would you mail him a check and have the equipment shipped? Why not give him the check when you pick up the equipment? We must be missing some piece of information here.

Third, did you really think you would get all those radios for $900? Again, we must be missing some information here.

Fourth, I did a search for havunfun@comcast.net, which is the address you said the scammer used on qth.com, and we have NEVER had an ad EVER on this site with that address. In addition, I did a search for the name of SCHELL and this name also has never been used on any ad on QTH.com, ever (except the bad feedback ads you placed last month). Once again, I must be missing something here? You say he uses qth.com, but I can't find any evidence of this.

I have also been ripped off by this guy. I called the Elkhart police to file charges. They report he has a "history". I have also found and are in present conversation with four others who have been ripped off. We all have charges pending. There are very likey more that have been ripped off but are ashamed to pursue it. I met the guy at a Terre Haute hamfest and can tell you he is one heck of a salesman.
