I posted a WTB ad and was contacted by Robert, N5EUN (supposedly). He contacted me through QTH.com and directly to my personal email address. His email address is: "glockhitt43@gmail.com"
I searched for N5EUN in QRZ.com and found out that he does not have an email listed, so I could neither confirm the email address nor contact the real ham.
In his email, he attached some nice pictures of the equipment I was looking for and asked me how much I was willing to pay for it, shipping and insurance included.
I searched in the web for a price and I came back to him offering a fair price for a used rig in good conditions. He accepted it and informed me that I needed to let him know the shipping address and that I had to pay with a bank transfer.
After I did not accept this way of doing the transaction, he informed me that he did not have a PayPal account but his wife did… and gave it to me as: "grant@naturalhairweft.com".
I sent the money via PayPal, finding out that the transfer had been made to an account in China (!) I immediately knew I had fallen into a trap.
I Googled for pictures of the rig I was looking for and there they were… in an ad posted back in 2012 !
I then filed a dispute in PayPal and finally, after a few weeks, I got my money back (thanks PayPal !!!).
This scammer has ham language, knows about amateur radio equipment, can get into OUR web sites and obtain OUR information, so BEWARE!!!
I hope N5EUN can read this post (or someone let him know of this).
Watch out for the guy using "glockhitt43gmail.com" as email address. He sent me an email from his iPhone which showed “Andraya” as his nickname.
Also, please list your email address on QRZ.com and then use that email address when doing business on QTH.com.
