W7YOZ - Merle .... Good man.. puts the 'E' in Extra !

Post by Thomas (WT-101) »

I just completed my very first QTH transaction with a true gentleman.
I placed an ad very recently on QTH Classifieds...wanting to buy a new or like-new Icom SM-8 microphone, with both cords, box & instructions. Being a little nervous as a first-timer, I asked for a couple photos. I had a total of 5 responses, three of which were outright scammers as 2 of these 3 wouldnt acknowledge my emails or give me their hard-line phone number. The third wouldnt give me a price on his scuffed mic, and wanted me to make HIM an offer. One ham had an 'looks ALMOST new' mike for an exorborant price (over 140$ plus shipping)
Then came a response from W7OZ, Merle with his home phone number, a fellow Washingtonian :) . He says the mic is new, and that he would like $125, plus shipping. I made a call and he even offered to knock a few dollars off... but I would not quibble over the price as I have seen well-used ones on eBay for more. He apologized for not being able to send pics, but if I WASNT satisfied, I could return it for refund. He offered, and did pay shipping :D , after giving me the tracking number and e.t.a.
The mike arrived on time and I swear the only evidence that it wasnt from the factory was Merle's fingerptints on the box :D . It was as new as the day it left the factory. I know I will have good luck with it mated to my Icoms ( have more than one).
A true gentleman, and I know a darned good ham.
Good people like him are getting scarcer, but there are still good people around. It was a true pleasure making his aquaintance.
I wish to thank the admins here for making this all possible.
Cheers & 73's,

Thomas. :D :D
