Ham Radios For Sale group on Facebook has 19k+ subscribers.
When I politely pointed out that a deceased ham was posting gear for sale.
Truly deceased. Not a reissued call!
The moderator removed all comments except the original advertisement.
After seeing a few other sketchy adverts, I quit reading postings in that group.
Sketchy = New member. New to Facebook. Insufficient info to verify identity. Price = 60% of Ebay completed sales.
HAs anyone been taken via this group? If so, make it known. I doubt you'll be able to comment there!
Careful with Facebook!
Re: Careful with Facebook!
Thanks for bringing this up.
Last night ran across two ads posted by one of the group "Admins" supposedly based in the US, one of which appears to be reusing photos from a different country, the other has some contradictions and both of the asking prices are too cheap to be realistic.
All four of the current group admins became admins in the last 6 weeks so I'll be reporting the group and leaving; hope others stay vigilant.

Re: Careful with Facebook!
It's a problem when the entire group appears legitimate.
Someone will make a trade, try to complain, and the "admins" block their posts. Or in my case, point out the scam before someone is screwed, and the post is blocked or deleted.
The scam post gets support from fake accounts and 'likes' by
real hams who recognize the 'good deal's and don't have a clue as to the scam.
How can a group with 18k users and 8 mods be a scam? Do it for 50 different niche hobbies. Automate most. After a few months fishing subscribers and igniting legit trades, start salting with the BS trades. AI can easily spoof a person who's made posts in the past. Scraping from old forums etc. the person appears real. $500 here. $1000 there, a few hundred times a month....
